The collection comprises data on estimated soil physical properties like clay, sand, pH, Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), and organic carbon (OC), obtained through predictive models utilizing proximal soil sensors and spectroscopic techniques such as visible near-infrared (visNIR) and portable X-ray Fluorescence (pXRF) spectroscopy. The process involved collating freely available data, developing an automated site selection software, and conducting fieldwork at a mixed-farming property in Narrabri, NSW. A conditioned Latin hypercube sampling design was used for distribution sampling under both cropping and pasture. The SPEC-SINFERS soil inference system was created to predict additional properties like available water capacity (AWC) using pedotransfer functions (PTFs). A spectral library with over 8,000 soil samples was constructed, and multi-depth mapping of soil properties was explored. The accuracy of mapped soil properties was tested under data-rich and data-poor scenarios, using RMSE as a reference.
